Ewer, Mason Ironstone, ‘The Noble Urn’, C.1820 Form: Ewer. Components: Hard paste. Decoration: Called ‘The Noble Urn’, this ewer is of Italian influence and is hand painted in enamel colors and gilt, possibly by Samuel Bourne. Two scenes are depicted, the first shows six people inside a home. There are four women around a kitchen table while a gentleman plays his flute and a young boy plays with his toy horse. The other scene depicts a waterfall surrounded by trees, rocks and mountains. The top is decorated with two gilded cherubs, in which one is gripping onto the gilt goose neck handle. Decorated around the top are gold painted flowers and foliates. Below each scene are gilded figures heads with open mouths. Ewer is raised on a leaf molded foot and square base. Colors: Gold, green, purple, white, blue, yellow Date: Circa 1820. Provenance: The estate of Arthur J. Connolly. Size: 27.5″ H
